Courtenay S. Brown, E-RYT 200, RYT 500, YACEP®

Founder & Owner

An avid runner, Courtenay took her first yoga class in 2007, after getting hurt training for her first marathon, when a physical therapist recommended it as a great way to cross-train. “After my very first practice, the moment I got up from the mat, I felt overwhelmed by a deep sense of gratitude. I felt like I had an encounter with God.” That sense of gratitude continued to prevail and 12 years and 13 marathons later, she discovered that yoga was the perfect way to cross-train for life. She continued her yoga journey and completed her 200-hour certification in 2014 and her 300-hour certification in 2019, both under the guidance of her Guru Dana A. Smith at Spiritual Essence Yoga. Courtenay became a Yoga Alliance  Continuing Education Provider in 2018.

Courtenay is a Reiki Master and a Thai Yoga Bodywork practitioner. She is the creator of Gospel Yoga Flow ®, a vinyasa flow, geared to creating a "worship experience" on the mat. Gospel Yoga Flow ® focuses on strengthening the spirit and the mind, as much as the body. Formerly a book publisher by profession, she holds BA and MA degrees in English. She is also a wife and proud mother of two daughters. She is working on her first book, "Peek-A-Boo Faith: Meditations for Conquering Fear," which will be published in 2020.

Our Teachers

Tonya Lewis, RYT

CTO

Tonya’s yoga journey began over 10 years ago. At the time she was heavily into sports and sought yoga as a compliment to her workouts. She began to practice at various studios, but didn't feel connected to the practice right away and assumed yoga was not for her. Tonya completed her 200-hour teaching certification in 2018 at Spiritual Essence Yoga. Her mission is to share her love of yoga and sports to help others experience the best health possible.

Theresa Speed, RYT

Senior Architect

Theresa started her yoga journey in 2015 when it was offered through the wellness program at her job. Her love for yoga grew so much that she developed a desire to teach. She completed her 200-hour teacher certification in July 2018 at Embrace Yoga DC. She wants her students to view yoga as more than a workout but a practice that can be used everyday.

Paris Richardson, CYT

CTO

Paris is a rehab specialist/patient representative. A graduate of the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore, she holds a BS in Exercise Science. Paris completed her 200-hour yoga teaching certification at Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health in 2016. Paris’ empathetic nature allows her to easily connect with others and to provide comfort and support to students on the mat.

Chrystal Mincey, RYT

CTO

Yoga has been a part of Chrystal’s life for years.  She completed her 200-hour Jiivana Yoga Training in 2019.  Her practice has helped her grow stronger, more flexible and fearless, both on and off the mat.  Always a student of the practice, Chrystal is a certified mediation teacher, Thai Yoga massage practitioner, and Reiki practitioner.

Toni Roberts, RYT

RYT - 500

Toni Roberts began her yoga practice in 2012. Her practice has played a vital role in her own personal healing and served as the beginning of a more intentional lifestyle.

Toni received her 200 hour vinyasa training at Flow Yoga Center in Washington, DC and her Reiki I and II attunement from her teacher, Uma Beepat. Toni holds space for her students and meets them where they are. Her intent is to share the tools that have continued to heal her inner being, and allow you to find the healer within.

Christy Fenner, CYT

RYT - 500

Christy’s yoga journey began as a means to complement her passion for endurance sports. After battling grief associated with the loss of a loved one, she had a healing encounter with God on the mat which led to the desire to deepen her practice. Today Christy is a Certified Gospel Yoga Flow® instructor and completing her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training through Spiritual Essence Yoga. You can expect Christy’s class to be an energetic spiritual experience with an emphasis on self-love and acceptance.

Sybil Buchanan

RYT - 500

In 2017, during her quest to find stillness, Sybil found yoga. Initially, she thought a diligent practice was all about building a stronger body, but soon found out she was becoming mentally stronger. As a result of her two-year practice, Sybil found that she could finally quiet her mind enough to hear her true self speak.

Her epiphany led her to want to share the gift of yoga with others and become an instructor. Sybil is currently pursuing her 200-hour Yoga Teacher certification at Shabach Yoga.
